PATRINELL screens at PROJECT PILGRIMAGE fundraiser at Seattle Center

What audience members are saying about PATRINELL from Baby Seal Films on Vimeo.

Patrinell: The Total Experience screened at Seattle Center on Tuesday Sept 18th at McCaw Hall’s Nesholm Family Lecture Hall as part of a fundraiser for Project Pilgrimage.

Our “cast members” Jessica “Jai” Howard, Gregory Staten, Robert Stephens Jr., and Pastor Patrinell Wright were present for the Q & A afterwards, where they addressed questions from the audience about the role the Black gospel music tradition played in the civil rights movement and the loss of the traditional value of intergenerational land ownership as a contributing factor to gentrification in Seattle’s Central District. The Patrinell Team (cinematographer Katya Palladina, co-director Andrew Elizaga, and producer/co-director Tia Young) were also present and discussed the making of the film.

It was a pleasure meeting former Total Experience Gospel Choir members who shared memories of being part of the choir when it was still only a music class at Franklin High School. We were heartened by the number of people who lingered to talk afterwards until the management turned the lights off and kicked us out into the street.

Project Pilgrimage seeks to build interracial and intergenerational community by studying, understanding, and gaining inspiration from transformational movements and individuals. One way they do this is by organizing educational pilgrimages to key locations in the American South where history was made during the civil rights movement, including Birmingham, Montgomery, and Selma, AL; Oxford and Philadelphia, MS; and Nashville and Memphis, TN. Patrinell producer/co-director Tia Young participated in one of these pilgrimages and found it to be a deeply rich and transformative experience. The Patrinell Team is proud to help Project Pilgrimage with its mission.

Big thanks to Project Pilgrimage and Seattle Center for hosting this event, and to everyone who attended!
